Performing Equity has been contracted to provide overall development, sales & marketing management of the Sotavento Luxury Residences.

The Development Team

Michael Drever
President & CEO
Mike is an experienced hospitality and franchising executive based in Vancouver, Canada. He founded and built North America’s largest chain of cruise specialty travel agencies (and an online marketing platform) with over 160 retail agencies supporting 4500 travel agents. He was awarded the Franchisor of the Year numerous times by the Canadian Franchise Association and inducted into the Canadian Franchise Hall of Fame in 2009. He was also inducted into the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Hall of Fame for Innovation in 2013. Mike sold CruiseShipCenters International Inc. to Expedia Inc. in 2007, prior to forming Drever Capital Canada. His passion for real estate, the travel industry and Zihuatanejo led to his formation of an enterprise to purchase and develop the Sotavento. He is also the founder of Branch-Up Technologies, which supports the travel industry with leading edge marketing systems. Mike is also a past chapter president of Entrepreneurs Organization (EO).
Paul Grehan
After completing his Bachelor of Commerce degree (Finance and Economics) at the University of UBC in 1984, Paul went on to join the Mergers and Acquisitions Group of KPMG (formerly Peat Marwick and Partners) where he received his Chartered Accountant designation. In 1987, Paul left KPMG and since that time he has developed an extensive background in finance, mergers and acquisitions in both public and private companies throughout North America and Europe. Through his Private Equity firm, Ryebridge Capital Corp., he has founded or acquired several privately held companies within a variety of industries and built an extensive real estate portfolio. Ryebridge has also been very active in “alternative, speculative or opportunistic” investments including USA foreclosure homes and mortgages, DIP financing, China seed capital investments, real estate syndicates and a variety of venture investments. Paul is a past Councillor for the Institute of Chartered Accountants, is active with Sauder School of Business as well as a variety of business associations and supports several philanthropic causes. He holds citizenship of both Canada and Ireland, and resides in Vancouver, Canada with his wife Elaine and their two children.
Peter Steele
Marketing Automation/Branch Up Technologies
Peter is the founder and CEO of Revenue Automation, a dynamic digital marketing agency. It specializes in IBM Watson Customer Engagement solutions providing services to major brands across Canada, and the United States. He is a member of Entrepreneurs Organization where he served as Vancouver Chapter President and a Director on the International Board. He is also an active member of ACETECH, a leadership and networking forum for CEOs in the technology sector. As the operating partner in Branch-Up Technologies, Peter is overseeing strategic partnerships that will drive Sotavento’ sales and operating revenues.
Carlos Lau
Carlos has over 30 years of experience dealing with Latin American jurisdictions, public and private companies and real estate development. He is instrumental in negotiating fair and equitable solutions for all stakeholders and ensuring projects are developed successfully.
John Murphy
John’s background includes building substantial enterprises in hospitality, publishing and real estate. John is a past chapter president and international board member of Entrepreneurs Organization (EO). He began acquiring large multifamily and resort projects in 1992. In 2000, he founded 20|20 Group, which developed over $1.2B CDN in multifamily condominium and resort properties across Canada and the U.S. In 2015, John was recruited by Mike Drever, his long-time friend and EO forum partner to consult on building the real estate arm of Performing Equity.
Jon Zwickel
COO
Throughout Jon’s career in hospitality leadership, he has been responsible for all aspects of the resort business: public and private finance, resort planning and development, corporate growth, social responsibility and environmental initiatives, fractional/timeshare/whole ownership and operation.

Onsite Management

Darryl Inglis
Development Director
Darryl has over 20 years of experience in design, construction and operation of real estate developments, including analysis, negotiations, rezoning, entitlement, and project administration. He has been involved in 23 projects with John since 2002, ranging from condominium conversions to master planned community development. Darryl and his family reside in Zihuatanejo.
Don Garner
Construction Management
Don is an accomplished real estate development executive with over 20 years of experience in the development and construction of a diverse portfolio of projects. He is an expert in site and project evaluation, land planning, design, development functions, cost analysis, budgeting, project and construction management. Don and his family reside in Zihuatanejo.
Angelica Polanco
Marketing and Communications Manager
Angelica is an accomplished bilingual professional who holds a Marketing Masters Degree, and brings sixteen years of strategic marketing experience in a variety of industries, including hospitality, real estate, advertising, entertainment, and consumer products. She has worked with some of the world’s most recognized brands, including Ritz- Carlton/Marriott, Marlboro, IMAX, The Coca Cola Co., HSBC, Nestlé, Corona, Walmart, Kellogg’s, and Disney.
Pat Heathfield
Sales Director
Pat has more than 35 years experience in advertising, vacation travel and tourism. He worked closely with Mike Drever to expand Expedia CruiseShipCenters nationally and internationally, while working closely with potential and existing franchise operators to ensure their success. Pat is a "relationship first" marketing executive who was semi retired, before falling in love with Zihuatanejo and Sotavento, making the decision to join our team. Pat is loving Zihuatanejo and would enjoy meeting you in the beachfront sales centre.

Offsite Support / Admistration

Nicholas Curry
Controller
Nick has held management and regional accounting positions in prestigious boutique hotel properties since 1991, prior to joining Performing Equity as group controller. He holds a Bachelor of Law from Sydney university and resides in Vancouver, BC with his family.
Enn Oun
Financial Administrator
Enn has over thirty years of experience as an executive in commercial and corporate finance, banking and business development. He has an MBA and Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers and has worked for both international and domestic financial institutions in senior management positions. Enn has worked closely on real estate projects with John Murphy since 1994.
Ada Santos
Office Manager
Ada has more than 30 years of success in managing and supporting executives in dynamic business environments across Canada, the US and Brazil. Her positive “can do” attitude is at the center of Performing’s ability to coordinate resources and achieve targets on time and on budget. Ada is proficient in French, English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Jeremy Ball
Human resources
Jeremy is a highly experienced Human Resources executive who has held HR, training and opening roles in Hotels and Resorts with Fairmont, CP Hotels and Keg restaurants. Jeremy consults to organisations in several countries and recently co-developed and completed a service excellence program for three thousand Quantas airlines employees. He is passionate about working closely with local professionals to ensure Sotavento is the most desirable place to work in the region.
Akos Magyar
Business Development
Akos has been working in real estate development and finance for 18 years. His experience includes sales, project funding, deal structuring, and institutional liaisons. His love of Mexico, hospitality, and his understanding of the recreational and international real estate markets make him a valuable addition to our team.

Andres Saavedra Design
Architectural/QS/DRO
Our local architectural team are associated with some of the region’s most creative design work. They have a depth of construction experience, strong local relationships with development and approval officers, and high standing in the local professional community. Andres is the past president of the region’s College of Architects and has recently completed an upscale non waterfront condominium tower in the La Ropa district. He is also very active in the planning of Zihuatanejo’s long range infrastructure requirements.
Dale Bellavance
Bell Group – Owner Representative
Dale has over 40 years of senior management and entrepreneurial experience as both a principal and owner’s representative in recreational, residential, commercial, and industrial projects. Dale’s past successes included three resort projects in Mexico with similar requirements to Sotavento. Bell has recently completed municipal masterplans on behalf of local governments in Alberta and BC and a major private/public development project on the North Vancouver waterfront, which included a hotel, district amenities and commercial.
